Why should children learn another language? |
What we do |
Understanding of the brain is continually evolving, so do the brain research and interpretation. It would be adventured to say that teaching two or more languages make children smarter, since brain and emotional intelligence are not all the same.It is a common believe that bilingual children are smarter than monolingual. According to Kendall King and Lyn Fogle, from Georgetown University, studies (e.g. Bialystok,2001) do not show that children raised bilingual become more intelligent than other kids that speak only one language. Nevertheless, the same studies have been careful to identify the benefits of bilingualism in specific areas such as metalinguistic awareness (awareness about language as a system) and cognitive processing. They note that other factors, such as the child's level of mastery of each language and the child's literacy skills, also influence the benefits derived from being bilingual. Therefore bilingualism may contribute to strengthening some specific cognitive skills for some children, but it should not be viewed as an overall indicator of greater intelligence or as a predictor of high academic performance.Speaking two or more languages has many benefits, it may not make your children smarter, but it is going to give them the opportunity of enjoying another culture, understanding it, living it, and appreciate more their own. One of the benefits of being bilingual includes the development of a strong cultural, social and religious identity. Being bilingual can open the doors to new opportunities, bridge gaps between cultures and generations, and foster understanding between different social groups and cultures. In today's world being bilingual is a must for those wishing to make our world a peaceful and enjoyable place. |
Spanish Zone creates an atmosphere for children where they learn the language while surrounded by colors, games, music, songs, books, and interactive media. All our programs are oriented to stimulate children's curiosity and interest for a different culture and language. We provide parents and children with the right pedagogue approach and support material to facilitate learning Spanish in a different and evolving multicultural world. What do we do? We have fun with children as young as 18 months and up to 13 years old. Each trimester includes 12 lessons which provide different tools, information, activities and materials. Every trimester is different in its core! We have different organized plans depending on the children's interests and time. The language program, once and twice a week. The Latin-American culture understanding program, once or twice a month. |
